is Haute Cabriere, one of our favourite french restaurants. This is a unique eating experience!
The whole restaurant is basically built into the mountain. When I'm sitting inside I feel what it must have felt like to eat inside an old castle made of stone. It's as if they took a stone and hollowed it out, put some nice tables and chairs inside as well as a grand wine cellar.
On the other side of town, just as you enter the Franschhoek mountain pass, you will find this restaurant/wine estate, constructed as a wine cellar. The food is very good and every dish on the menu can be ordered either as a starter or a main course.
They are well known for their champagne, brandy and interesting blends produced on the estate. A very interesting blend is the Chardonay/Pinot Noir combination which is served cold and a favourite of ours.
In winter the fireplace together with the cellar construction creates a lovely ambiance.
Outside the restaurant is a
estate as well as a helicopter pad . To get there you drive through Franschhoek and on your way out to the town Villiersdorp you'll find it on your left. You can't miss it.
