This is one of my favourite coastal villages in the Western Cape. Gordons Bay, also referred to as GB, is famous for a few things but especially Bikini Beach (which won the prestigious Blue Flag award).
There's a saying around the locals that the south-easterly wind gets manufactured in GB and then exported to Cape Town. It's situated on the other side of False Bay and the winds blow mainly in Summer. When the wind has died down, it's one of the most enjoyable places in South Africa.
When we got married, we bought a house in GB and we lived there for two years. The mountains surrounding you at all times are amazing and no matter where you are you are literally only a few minutes from the sea.
We love to drive down the main beach road and spend a few hours in the book store while eating ice creams. The owner of the book store's name is Anton and he's hardly ever there. So the way it works is that there's an abalone shell on the front desk and if he's not there, you leave the cash underneath the shell.
After that we would go to Bikini Beach for a refreshing swim. It's a small beach right next to GB harbour, with a beautiful view across the basin at Table Mountain Cape Town.
Two good restaurants to recommend:
Trawlers is an informal place that serves seafood dishes. When you eat there you should try the calamari. It's really good.
Al forno's is right next door to Trawlers and it's more of a sit down restaurant. They serve good Italian food and you can sit outside and watch the sunset.
