Somerset West - The Town at the foot of the Helderberg Mountain

I am writing this from our home in Somerset West. It is a warm day and the sun has just peeped over the mountains, giving me it's usual warm South African greeting. Take a quick look at the
history of Somerset W'
There are many beautiful things in this town. The
Helderberg Mountain
is most definitely one of these. A must see is the beautiful Lourensford Road, a Somerset wine estate culture. Many people come to this town to simply experience the farms down this road and after this, if you haven't had enough of world class wines, go to
Stellenbosch,
which is only 15 minutes away. I grew up here in this town and I attended school in Stellenbosch. It was wonderful. I used to take the bus everyday and I loved watching the beautiful scenery of this place that we also call the Boland. In most places in
Cape Town
, as in any coastal cities, there can be lots of wind. The wind in Somerset, however, doesn't blow as much as what it does in the other parts of the Cape. Probably something to do with how it's situated with the mountains. This makes it really nice in the summer months because the prevailing wind in the Cape is a South Easterly wind which blows in summer. The town is situated approximately 15 - 20 minutes drive from the beach. If you're looking for a great place to have a meal and see the sunset, go to
Gordons Bay.
It's about 20 minutes drive. If you've got the travel bug like I do, take a look at this
