Experience the great Mother City of Cape Town

She is relatively young, this mother city. The oldest in South Africa though. Cape Town, also known as Kapstadt, started as a halfway station for the sailors on their way to India. This was around 1652. Start with a brief history of Cape Town if you like.

Cape Town is unique in the sense that the city is built all around Table Mountain. You can go to Camps Bay and be one side of the mountain, then cross over the mountain and head for the V&A Waterfront.

It is truly one of the best places in South Africa. You can drive in the streets and always have the great mountain looming overhead, which makes for easy directions because you can always orientate yourself with whrere the mountain is.

Driving from the Waterfront to Houtbay you can take the tranquil road via the Southern Suburbs. This road is my favourite because it is covered with old oak trees all the way to Hout Bay.

You can also take the road through Camps Bay which will take you along a large portion of the famous Argus Cycling Tour route held once a year.

There are a lot of things to do in Cape Town. It's a busy city with great beauty all around. There's an interesting and yet entertaining side to this city which is that it has a reputation for being more "laid back" than other parts of the country. However true this may be I'm not sure, but it could explain the phenomenon I experience here; you can arrange a time to meet someone and pitch up 10 minutes late only to find her arrive 5 minutes after you and both of you just step right into conversation as if it's no big deal at all.
